Today we visited a local orphanage to meet the children, and play and make Tshirts. They say "Jesus loves you" in Russian. And now Buster has a new home where he will be loved and cared for...
Today we went to the market to buy bikes for the children from a nearby orphanage... And we really started to get to know the men from the rehab center better... including their pet kittens! But at the end of the day, everyone is pooped, including Buster:
This is a photo of the church from the path by the train tracks. During our trip, we ran a VBS for the local kids... And we began our work. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the stone wall that was in front of the church before we knocked it down. But by the end of the day we had accomplished quite a lot! And we still had time to watch a beautiful sunset over the streets of Vapnyarka.
It's a 6 hour drive to Vapnyarka. The countryside reminds me of home... ... and so does the McDonald's that we stop at for lunch. Then we arrive at the church where we will be staying/working... with the men's rehab center in front... and we claim our mattress in the room we'll be sleeping in for the next 2 weeks. In the evenings, the men from the rehab center get together and sing....
Because there is so much to say about my trip, I am deliberately leaving out the details. After all, this is a photo blog, not a blog blog. So if you want to know any details, you'll just have to talk to me. If you want to see more pictures, you can check out all of my Ukraine photos on snapfish, by clicking here.
And we're off.... it's a 20 hour journey to Kiev. Let's just say the international flights are much easier for me than the short little flights (ie KC to Chicago).
Oh wait... I DO know. Two weeks. I leave for Ukraine today and will not have any way to update my blog... but I promise when I get back I'll post all of my photos! Look for something around the timeframe of July 9th/10th ish.
This was my last day at Sprint, so Pattye helped me pack away my desk. All my toys went in a bag, and everything in a box to take home. All that's left is an empty desk. So... sad to say goodbye to good people... but I'm so glad I'm finally free again!!!
